What is muscle therapy? Muscle therapy is closely related to massage therapy. However the implications are slightly different and therefore so too are the benefits.

Massage therapy manipulates the superficial layer of muscle tissue in order to improve blood circulation and improve the flow of bodily fluids. It is beneficial for relaxation, stress relief and may temporarily relieve pain.

Muscle therapy addresses the deep layers of the muscles and actually works to heal damaged tissue. Not only does is stimulate blood flow but also lymphatic fluid. The better blood circulation we have, the healthier we are because a healthy and efficient flow of blood means an increased supply of oxygen throughout the body.

Likewise a healthy lymphatic system creates a healthy environment for your respiratory and circulatory system. By removing toxins, bacteria and waste from the blood stream, it is important to understand the benefits of a healthy lymphatic system. When muscles become damaged usually the lymph nodes are also suffering from inflammation. The best way to revive circulation is through muscle therapy. Sickness, injury, stress and exhaustion are all a result of improper lymphatic circulation.

Weight Loss and Weight Management

Can muscle therapy actually help for weight loss?
Of the many benefits I have came across (and witnessed myself) of muscle therapy, I think the one that surprised me the most was weight loss. At the risk of sounding like a snake oil salesman, let me explain:
Working with the digestive system, lymphatic and lymphoid systems can promote weight loss by increasing circulation.
Reflexology works with the nerve endings in your hands and feet to provide a less invasive method of treating the digestive system.
Stimulation of the spleen also reduces the sensation of hunger.
When the digestive system is functioning properly, you require less food to get the nutrients your body needs. With an inefficient digestive system, your body wont make very good use of the food you ingest.
When your lymphatic system is working efficiently your body will store less toxins and that means less malnutrition.
The gall bladder stores bile secreted by the liver. Treating this can help break down fats and help lose weight.
The thyroid, adrenal glands, and pituitary gland can have an effect on your diet as well, by balancing hormones and reducing stress in the body.
All of these can be stimulated through the hands and feet and central nervous system using trigger points (nerve endings).

If you are trying to lose weight, and dieting alone just isn't helping anymore, or excercising doesn't seem to be helping anymore, maybe it's time to try muscle therapy.
I have personally witnessed the weight loss and digestion promoting effects of Reflexology, so I know it works. This can also help for indigestion in most cases.

Some basic detox and weight loss tips:
Drink 8 to 12 glasses of water a day. Water promotes digestion.
Get a massage to increase circulation, which also promotes digestion and colon function.
Stretching is good for the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is the only part of the body that does not pump itself, so toxins will build up within the lymphatic system.
Raw fruits and veggies on an empty stomach. These will naturally help cleanse the lymphatic system (detox).
